Memphis is home of the Blues, home of Elvis Presley, and home of some of the tastiest hot wing spots in Tennessee.
Ching’s Hot Wings is a family owned black restaurant located between East Memphis and Orange Mound and is a favorite tourist spot for many. It first opened back in 2003, attracting hungry customers with their homemade lemonades, honey gold wings, and fries topped with ramen noodle seasoning. Since then, they have brought in many people from all over the city and even guests from out of town to have a seat, relax, and munch on some delicious food.
Ching’s keeps it real personal in their restaurant by taking pictures of random customers and celebrities that dine-in and posts them all over the walls, with permission. Customers are also allowed to write on the walls in the front by the register, leaving it covered with random Twitter and Instagram handles, signatures, and small notes of appreciation. Flat screen TVs are mounted around the room, consistently playing different sports channels to keep guests entertained while waiting.
Hot wings and fries are primarily sold here, but other cookout food items can be purchased such as: smoked sausages, hot dogs, onion rings, okra, cheese sticks, and chicken tenders. They offer a variety of wing spices and sauces, accommodating for the spicy and sweet wing lovers. Honey gold and honey hot are their most popular wing flavors, leaving your mouth with a sweet and tangy aftertaste. Some of the other flavors include lemon pepper, garlic parmesan, hot and barbeque. Their homemade lemonades are also a fan favorite with the orange and blue flavors being the most purchased drink choice. Personal wing plates and trays up to 100 pieces of either party or whole wings are served, and the prices range from $7-$150. I recommend the five whole wing combo with honey gold sauce, fries as the side and a blue lemonade to drink. My mouth waters every time the sweet scent hits my nose as I open the take-out box.
The only downside this restaurant has is that the wait time is typically around 30-45 minutes, depending on the day. Knowing it is so busy, many people call ahead to place their orders so they can instantly pay and dig in to eat when they arrive. For a personal wing plate the average price is around $12. While the wait time may be long, it is worth it when the food finally arrives to the table.
Memphis has some of the best hot wings spots to try and Ching’s Hot Wings is one of them for sure.
